Introducing the 2025 Bartman Museum Internship Scholarship Winners

Meet this year’s Bartman Museum Internship Scholarship winners! This scholarship was established in honor of AIA Past President Elizabeth Bartman to assist advance undergraduates, graduate students, or those who have recently completed a master’s degree with the expenses associated with participating in a museum internship either in the United States or abroad.

Mohamed Abdulsamad (Southern University at New Orleans)

Mohamed Abdulsamad will support the accessioning, documentation, and provenance research of the Edward DeCarbo Collection of African Art at Southern University at New Orleans Museum of Art. The research will play a pivotal role in the ethical stewardship and contribute to future exhibitions, scholarship, and potential publication.

MJ Smith (Wesleyan University)

MJ Smith recently graduated from Wesleyan University with a BA in American Studies and is working this summer at the Cordova Historical Museum in Cordova, Alaska, as a Collections and Exhibits Intern. Her project aims to draw from the collection, archives, and other research materials to examine the history and consequences of European colonialism on Alaska’s Native populations, ultimately generating an exhibit that demonstrates the complex history of Native-European contacts in the Prince William Sound area while centering Native experiences, primarily those of the Alutiiq, Eyak, and Tlingit peoples.
